The Muslim Brotherhood

Who are the Muslim Brotherhood?

The Muslim Brotherhood (Al-Ihkwan al-Muslimun) is a Sunni, pan-Islamic organization based in Cairo, Egypt whose ultimate aim is the re-establishment of the global Islamic caliphate and the implementation of sharia as state law. Founded in 1928, the group was originally anti-colonial and has since set up affiliated organizations in various countries around the world. Along with Jamaat e-Islami in Pakistan, they are regarded as the progenitors of all other Islamist movements.
