  • An Iranian intelligence operative, Asif Merchant, was convicted in federal court for involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting U.S. politicians, including President Trump, according to the Department of Justice. Merchant was a trained operative of the Iranian government’s global terrorist force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
  • Prosecutors said Merchant participated in a scheme directed by Iranian intelligence to locate and arrange the killing of targets inside the United States, including coordinating with criminal associates.
  • The plot was disrupted by U.S. authorities before any attack occurred, and the defendant now faces sentencing following the conviction on terrorism-related charges. He faces up to life in prison. READ MORE
