- A recent report by TikTok states fake accounts have disseminated disinformation related to Russia’s war in Ukraine, targeting Ukrainian and Russian users, as well as individuals across Europe. The content on these accounts aimed to “artificially amplify pro-Russian narratives” on the war. Some accounts were falsely presented as news outlets, contributing to the spread of deceptive information.
- Around 13,000 fake accounts, primarily operated from Russia, were identified by TikTok, with the majority pushing Kremlin war propaganda. Some accounts operated from within Ukraine, amplifying narratives to raise funds for the Ukrainian military. TikTok, in response, removed all identified fake accounts.
