- Matthew Jason Beddingfield, of North Carolin, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison for assaulting law enforcement officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
- Beddingfield pleaded guilty to the felony charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. He jumped over a barricade, charged toward Capitol Police officers, and attacked them with a metal flagpole and a metal rod.
- Beddingfield entered the Capitol building, joined a group of rioters attempting to storm the Senate wing, and assisted in pushing against police officers. He spent approximately 30 minutes inside the Capitol and about two hours on the restricted grounds. Read More
