The horrific prospect of children being separated from their parents due to immigration issues is truly heart-wrenching. As we watch the news and advocate against child abuse, let us not forget how radical Islamists have twisted the lives of so many of the youth of our next generation.
After ISIS captured a significant portion of territory in Syria and Iraq, children were pressed into the terror group’s “Caliphate Cubs” division. Brainwashed and tortured, it will be very difficult for these children to recover from such trauma. Moreover, the ones that don’t will remain like time bombs within our society.
Many Iraqi children watched while their fathers and older brothers were murdered and their mothers were pressed into sex slavery. They linger in camps today, clinging to hopes of a different future. Aid workers like Lisa Miara and her organization Springs of Hope help them recover but their job is endless.
When does teaching the facts about Islam morph into becoming religious brainwashing, indoctrination, propaganda or evangelizing? That is a question being asked more and more about the curriculum used in public schools to teach about Islam. While most parents are not opposed to their children learning about Islam, they expect the subject to be taught accurately and without bias. What they are finding in many cases is the opposite.
Youth in the Palestinian Authority and Gaza are raised on an incessant diet of hatred, incitement to violence and martyrdom – from textbooks in their schools to programming on their TV and other media to the glorification of terrorists through naming schools, sporting events and women’s centers after them.
Summer is “cutting season,” where even girls raised in the West are not immune to the brutal practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), the after effects of which last a lifetime. Activists against FGM are advising girls from immigrant parents who are being taken to their countries of origin for a “summer vacation” to hide a spoon in their underwear before going through airport security. When the spoon triggers the metal detector, the girl can privately alert authorities to her plight. Even in the U.S., girls are being sacrificed. Recently, a bill to criminalize FGM in Maine was squashed by House Democrats due to political correctness and misplaced concerns about Islamophobia.
