Watch former U.S. Special Forces operative David Eubank, now 56 and an aid worker in Iraq, rescue a five-year-old girl amid sniper fire in Mosul. The girl was stranded in a pile of dead bodies – civilians who had been executed by ISIS for trying to flee the city.
Eubank, wearing just a bulletproof vest and helmet and positioned behind a tank, decided to make a run for the girl, whom he noticed was alive in the pile. Soldiers supported his run with fire and a smoke grenade as he made the attempt.
“I thought, ‘If I die doing this, my wife and kids would understand,'” Eubank later told the Los Angeles Times.
After 10 tense seconds, Eubank returned with the young girl in his arm, both uninjured.
