Ghassan Elashi, CEO of the Holy Land Foundation, speaks to the news media in 2001 during a news conference a year before he was arrested on terror financing charged. In 2009, Elashi was sentenced to 65 years in prison for funneling 12 million dollars to Hamas. The North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) is a Muslim Brotherhood entity with extensive reach into Michigan (as well as throughout Islamic communities in America).  NAIT was founded in Indiana by the Muslim Students Association. Today, it is a “constituent organization” of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

Declassified FBI memos show that agency investigators identified NAIT as a foreign-financed Muslim Brotherhood front in the late 1980’s.  One memo states:

“As reported above by [name redacted] the IIIT [International Institute of Islamic Thought], NAIT, ISNA and various other Muslim organizations under the direction and control of the IKHWAN [Muslim Brotherhood] in the United States has as its ultimate goal political control of all non-Islamic governments in the world.”

In 2007, NAIT was labeled an unindicted co-conspirator in the Hamas fundraising trial of the Holy Land Foundation. The U.S. government listed it among “individuals/entities that are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.”

NAIT appealed the label, however the designation was upheld as there was “ample evidence” linking NAIT to the Hamas financing network of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. For example, a NAIT bank account gave checks designated for “Palestinian mujahideen [jihadi warriors]” to the Holy Land Foundation, which then distributed the funds to Hamas.

The following is a list of several mosques in Michigan known to be affiliated with NAIT:

Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor and Vicinity

The Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor and Vicinity (MCA) is registered as permanent religious endowment (waqf) for Ahl us-Sunnah Wal Jama’ah with NAIT.

MCA’s imam, Moataz Al-Hallak, was written about a week after the 9/11 attacks in The New York Times, which reported that he was “a Muslim cleric suspected of ties to the Osama bin Laden organization” and was banned from preaching at a Texas mosque because of his radical Islamic teachings.

Islamic Cultural Association

The Islamic Cultural Association (ICA) is located in Farmington Hills (a suburb of Detroit) and affiliated with a number of Muslim Brotherhood groups. ICA was involved in a scandal involving allegations of corruption in a sale of a public school to ICA. In the course of the investigation, it was reported that ICA had direct ties to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) — also named as a unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land terror financing case — alongside NAIT.

In addition, one of ICA’s board members, Asim Khan, served as the New Jersey chapter president for the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), another Brotherhood-linked group that promotes worldwide Islamic domination and unremitting anti-Semitism. ICNA was identified as a Muslim Brotherhood entity from evidence presented at the Holy Land trial.

Tawheed Center

The Tawheed Center, also located in Farmington Hills, states in its constitution that the center is a trust under NAIT. No other information on the center is available at the present time.
