A teenager brainwashed by Islamic State (ISIS) blew himself up accidentally while still in his house, killing all six members of his family, a local source told Al-Sumaria news, as reported by The Sun.
“The teenager’s belt exploded inside his home,” the source said. “It appeared later that all of his family, including three children, were killed.”
The teen was recruited by ISIS into its “Cubs of the Caliphate” junior division, which sends teenagers to the frontlines to fight. The group reportedly distributed suicide vests to many teenagers whom they had brainwashed.
Iraqi forces are currently pushing deeper into Mosul, which has been held by Islamic State jihadists since 2014, backed by coalition airstrikes. ISIS is fighting back hard with snipers, mortar fire and rocket propelled grenades as well as suicide bombers. Yesterday ISIS reportedly killed seven pro-government tribal fighters and five police officers in the town of Shirqat south of Mosul, at fake checkpoints set up by the terror group.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Shiite militia groups affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Committees who are fighting for the Iraqi government, have taken ISIS military positions in the town of Tel Afar, to the west of Mosul. They also claim to have severed the main east-west road which connects Mosul to the Islamic State’s de-facto capital of Raqqa in Syria.
The Iraqi army, backed by militia forces, is attempting to encircle Mosul before finally taking complete control of it.
