Sesame Street Lends a Hand to Push for Women’s Rights

Afghani Sesame Street

In a first for Afghanistan,  a local TV channel is running a weekly Sesame Street series on women’s rights.

The cuddly kids characters call on people to respect women and to appreciate their role in society.

“My bro, my name is Zari. I live on Sesame Street. I have many friends on this road…I urge people to respect women, get educated about this and fight violence,” a purple character tells her puppet pal.

The show also tackles other social issues.
