Pullman Islamic Center

Address: Pullman, WA 99163

Year Founded: 1982

Website: www.pullmanislamiccenter.org

The Pullman Islamic Center says it is operated by the Pullman Islamic Association, a federal non-profit.[1]

It is owned by the North American Islamic Trust, a branch of the Islamic Society of North America. Its website says that the Pullman Islamic Association and its sub-units are also affiliated with ISNA. An organizational chart on the Center website shows its board of trustees under ISNA.[2]

The opening ceremony in 1982 was attended by then-President of ISNA, Syed Syeed and Dawud Swink, a member of the ISNA General Secretary.[3] In 2006, Syeed was recorded saying, “Our job is to change the constitution of America.”[4]

The Center says its construction was funded by donations from Muslims locally and around the world but “no funding was received from any foreign government or organization.”[5]

The Center’s website states that jihad does not mean “holy war” but admits the term can mean violence. It includes “struggle in the battlefield for self-defense (e.g., having a standing army for national defense) or fighting against tyranny or oppression.”[6]
