A few days ago we reported that Denmark just banned wearing a full face veil in public. As a result, we asked you if a woman should be allowed to wear a full face veil in public? Here are the results and some of your comments:
Yes, in any circumstance. Who are we to tell her what to wear? 1.3%
Only if it her personal choice. Not if it’s forced on her by her guardian. 8.3%
Not under any circumstance. It’s demeaning and poses a security risk. 90.4%
All women in public spaces should have their faces uncovered for security reasons. Put a veil on at home…
When in Rome do as the Romans do!
It’s not necessary in a free society.
100 years ago no one knew what the word ‘hijab’ meant. How did we get here? It is not a religious requirement. It is a rule born out of a male dominated ideology to subjugate and minimize women.
Are you sure it’s a “she”?
But it is very difficult to determine when it is her personal choice. Also when voting or participating in legal proceedings the veil should be removed for identification. I am personally intimated by the full body coverings.
As a question of principle, people should identify themselves clearly without any fears. Besides there are no religious norms that compel you to hide your face. The Qu’ran doesn’t say anything about it.
If really is a personal choice and NOT allowed in any security area (Airports, Banks and the like) and must remove to prove identity if required by police or any one in authority checking identity. eg while driving.
It’s the 21st century. Women are on a par with men in most countries. Let’s literally lift the veil. Women aren’t subservient to men. Those men who insist upon subjugating women need to be jailed. They’re oppressors and I don’t care if it’s their religion or not. It’s oppressive.
I understand covering the hair, it is common in the Middle East and Africa but not the face, that smacks of putting someone into prison. I am aware that some women are happy to do it but it is partly due to the fact that some Muslim males cannot be trusted and force this onto very little girls, even tiny babies, taking away their childhood especially when sold into marriage at 8 years old. This is not something I want for any child.
