After Democrat members of Congress met privately with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at a conference in Munich — without the knowledge of or approval by the State Department — Clarion Project took a poll, asking:
Was it OK that the Dems met privately with the Iranian foreign minister?
- 98 percent of our readers said, “No.”
- 2 percent said, “Yes.”
At least one senator who was at the meeting, Chris Murphy (D-CT), defended his actions in an online post
Here what some of our readers had to say about the meeting:
[Murphy] committed a violation of the Logan Act. He needs to be prosecuted for it.
They need to be held accountable!
Fact finding is one thing, countering majority action is another.
It weakens the U.S.A.’s position and breaks the law.
They should be censured and then be forced to attend a class on constitutional duties of each branch!
The Dems act like they have an all-out rebellion in place. We used to call that TREASON.
It just makes sense for just one branch to be responsible for foreign policy. It’s not for senators to undermine the president.
Murphy is a delusional fool who no doubt expressed condolences to Zarif for the killing of Soleimani.
It is clearly unconstitutional and Murphy was way out of his league and responsibility with his self-proclaimed authority.
It only undermines the work of Trump and Pompeo. It’s like a private trying to do the job of a general. Not good.
Not without the authorization from the president should they be meeting and speaking of foreign policy with any foreign government leader
The Democrats are trying to undermine the president and his people!
What you did, Murphy, should be taken seriously. You and the others should be kicked out of Congress and then prosecuted.
More congressional Democrat abuse of power.
Meeting Zarif, the Deceitful-in-Chief, was a slap in the face of all those in Iran who are fighting for their freedom, especially women.
They should be taken to task for breaking the law! Without following the laws we will become a fallen nation!
Have the DOJ call a Grand Jury to indict Murphy and everyone else who spoke with the Iranians at that meeting.
This should be treason. We are in armed conflict with them.
The main point is this is the opposition party of the President, making it a political hit job that continues their attempt to usurp the constitutional presidential powers and responsibilities.
If he admits that he is not the president, or even they secretary of state, then why is he meeting with foreign leaders with no knowledge or authority to do so? A house divided cannot stand. Prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law!
It is well past time for serious consequences for these many Democrats who think they are above the law.
Inappropriately and possibly illegal. There must be ways of getting his views known within the US political system.
Anything to start a dialogue is okay by me.
Preserve and protect the constitution — live up to it or be removed from office.
This action undermines the president’s policies and power! Murphy and cohorts should be punished to the extreme!
This was totally inappropriate to do without the approval of the State Department. Sounds just like John Kerry’s meddling.
Democrats continue to openly show that their loyalty is not with the citizens, but is solely unto themselves and their quest for political power over all who disagree with them. They will jump into the sack with anyone who helps their cause at the moment.
No one is above the law.
Murphy is a political animal that will say anything to justify what he desires to do. No discipline in his behavior as a senator.
Trump was wrong to pull the US out of the JCPOA and a US senator is entitled to speak to Zarif if he wants.
They do not have the authority to do this, they are Democrats, which means they will do anything if they believe it will hurt President Trump or the US or Israel.
