The New York Times spotlighted our critically-acclaimed film, The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, on the front page of its Tuesday edition. In an article entitled, “In Police Training, a Dark Film on U.S. Muslims,” the Times suggests that the New York Police Department made a critical mistake in showing the documentary to almost 1,500 of its lieutenants, detectives and patrol officers.
The Third Jihad takes an in-depth look at the process of radicalization and indoctrination of American Muslims taking place on American soil and is a powerful educational tool that has been used by law enforcement across the country. The article comments that The Third Jihad “was shown, according to internal police reports, ‘on a continuous loop’ for between three months and one year of training.”
“We are very pleased that the New York Times has chosen to clearly demonstrate how our films are making an impact by reaching a broad and influential audience including the top echelons of law enforcement officials in America,” said Raphael Shore, Founder and CEO of Clarion Fund and executive producer of the film.
Since the Times “broke” the story, it has been picked up by numerous other major newspapers and websites, including The Wall Street Journal, CNN, the New York Daily News and the UK’s Daily Mail.
While the NYT made no concrete attempt to deal with the facts presented in the film, there were a number of inaccuracies reported in the article. The Clarion Fund has been working to inform the public of these inaccuracies by making The Third Jihad available for free streaming on our website, and by engaging in a multi-faceted marketing and public relations campaign to take advantage of this tremendous exposure. The film features an impressive list of interviewees including:
- NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly
- Former NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
- Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge,
- Former Director of Central Intelligence R. James Woolsey,
- Former FBI Asst. Dir. of Public Affairs John Miller,
- Among distinguished others.
In one of the article’s inaccuracies, the Times accuses The Third Jihad’s filmmakers of lifting the clip with NYPD Commissioner Kelly from an old interview, using as its source an email from Paul J. Browne, the NYPD’s chief spokesman. In fact, Kelly gave our filmmakers an hour and a half interview for use in the film. To see that interview, click here.
