Mauro on Fox: Trump Needs to Hit Syria Hard

Clarion’s National Security Analyst and director of the Clarion Intelligence Network Ryan Mauro talks to Fox News about President Trump’s pledge to make Assad, Iran and Russia pay a “big price” for the latest Syrian chemical weapons attack.

Mauro says Trump must respond to the attack and forcefully, since his limited strike a year ago after a similar chemical weapons attack obviously did not serve as a deterrent to Assad. In the event of a strike, Mauro warns that Americans will be bombarded with disinformation and conspiracy theories from Russian, Iranian and pro-Assad propagandists trying to convince the public Assad is innocent and an ally against jihadists.

Mauro also cautions against embracing Turkey in order to build an anti-Assad coalition. Instead, he calls for stronger support for the Syrian Democratic Forces, America’s allies comprised of a coalition of Kurdish, Christian and Sunni Arab forces in northern Syria.
