Teenage girls across Iran are walking the streets without their enforced head coverings in protest of the action of an Islamist teacher. It’s the latest act of defiance by women who are seeking a way out of the shackles imposed on them by the Islamic Republic’s religious leadership.

Their action was sparked when a teacher in Abadan in the country’s south decided to cut the hair of a student because some her hair was sticking out from her hijab.
