As previously reported by the Clarion Project, the Tsarnaev brothers who committed the Boston bombings attended the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB), a mosque with extensive Muslim Brotherhood ties.
Evidence of the radical Islamic ideology being spread in the Boston area can be seen in the following video from March 2010. The video shows Imam Abdullah Faarooq, an imam at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, calling on Muslim congregants to support Aafia Siddiqui, a known Al-Qaeda operative, and telling worshippers, “You must grab on to this rope, grab on to the typewriter, grab on to the shovel, grab on to the gun and the sword, don’t be afraid to step out into this world and do your job.”
Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani woman who previously resided in the United States, was found guilty on all charges related to her attempted murder and assault on United States officers and employees in Afghanistan. In September 2010, Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in prison.
Now, Americans for Peace and Tolerance has discovered that the ISB website approved of wife-beating and striking 10-year olds for refusing to pray. The organization also found additional proof of the mosque’s extremism.
In 2004, the ISB approved of the physical abuse of disobedient wives. The section of the website titled "40 Recommendations for the Muslim Home," also said to “hit” children who are at least 10 years old and refuse to pray.
“Hitting is not the way to discipline; it is not to be resorted to, except when all other means are exhausted, or when it is needed to force someone to do obligatory acts of obedience,” it advises.
The older of the two Boston bombers, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was arrested in 2009 for domestic abuse towards his girlfriend. A cousin confirmed, “He used to strike his girlfriend. He hurt her a few times.”
The ISB also recommended the use of intimidation. “Hang up the whip where the members of the household can see it,” it states.
The extremism of the mosque was confirmed by Sheikh Ahmed Mansour, a moderate Muslim and board member of Americans for Peace and Tolerance.
Another video shows Imam Suhaib Webb of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center preaching that homosexuals are cursed.
In related news, authorities are looking for a Muslim convert named Misha that the uncle blames for radicalizing Tamerlan Tsarnaev. It is believed that they met at a Boston mosque.
The ISB has issued a press release condemning the bombings and stating that Tamerlan only attended the mosque “intermittently” for about a year and the younger brother, Dzhokhav, was seen “rarely.”
[signup]The ISB defends itself by focusing on the act, not the motivation. It may disagree with the target of the bombings, but the ISB’s radicalism may have provided the rationale for the attacks.
If the mosque promotes the theme that the U.S. is at war with Islam and violent jihad is sometimes necessary, then it's condemnation of the Boston attack should be put under the category of "damage control" and not a true policy of being against Islamist ideology. It may publically disagree with the attack, but it provided the motivation.
