International volunteers fighting against the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group have announced the formation of a gay militia force, as reported by Newsweek.

The International Revolutionary People’s Guerrilla Forces (IRPGF), an anarchist movement, announced the creation of The Queer Insurrection and Liberation Army (TQILA) in a statement on Monday.

The IRPGF is itself a subsidiary of the International Freedom Battalion, a coalition of international volunteer fighters which fights alongside the Kurdish YPG. They are taking part in the offensive to liberate Raqqa from the control of the Islamic State.

TQILA clarified their name is pronounced “Tequila.”

In their formation statement, they said they could not stand idly by while gay people are thrown from rooftops by ISIS.
