Hamid advocates against political Islam and the establishment of a caliphate. Designating the Brotherhood as a terror organization would “give moderate, rational, and merciful Islam a chance to finally defeat those ideas.”
He also says although Muslims demand that others give them equal rights, “they do not look at themselves in the mirror, in order to see that they themselves do not give equal rights to others.”
Hamid is originally from Egypt and is currently a researcher at the Virginia-based Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. A former member of the militant al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya terror group, Hamid now advocates for a peaceful understanding of Islam that is compatible with universal human rights and intellectual freedom.
