Three Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) officials are celebrating the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi in Egypt’s presidential election, two of which depicted it as a defeat for American imperialism.

Dawud Walid, the director of CAIR’s Michigan chapter, said, “Get ready for regional and Western forces’ plans to undermine President-elect Morsi. We’ve seen this playbook before. While you’re so concerned about how Morsi will govern in Egypt, you are loosing [sic] your democratic rights in America.” Click here to read the Investigative Project on Terrorism’s dossier on Walid.

Remarks by Lamis Deek, a board member of CAIR’s New York chapter, were even more provocative: “Dear America: read, watch the arab world die for freedom from u.s. proxy-imperialist (colonialist) wrath” and “Arab democracy=US govt hands off. [sic]”

Nihad Awad, CAIR’s Executive Director, was tamer. “We congratulate the Egyptian people and their new president on this great achievement in Egypt’s struggle for freedom.”

Deek’s incendiary outbursts are commonplace. In July 2009, she spoke at an event for Viva Palestina and said, “In choosing Hamas, what they chose was one united Palestinian state on all of  the 1948 territories from the north to the very south … And in supporting Palestinian choice, we are saying we support their right to liberation from violent colonialism.”

She tells Muslims that “It’s very important to not speak to law enforcement of any type, not just FBI agents.” If the FBI visits your home, “sneak out.” FBI personnel are often Israeli imposters, Deek warns, and, “They will do anything, anything within their power and oftentimes beyond their power to get you to talk.” Muslims must be wary of the “NYPD-CIA-Israel alliance in NY.”

There’s no evidence that CAIR has reprimanded her for these remarks or even distanced itself from them. If CAIR is so moderate and opposed to terrorist groups like Hamas, why does it keep her around in a position of prominence?

CAIR’s solidarity with Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood is to be expected. After all, CAIR’s originated in the Muslim Brotherhood. CAIR may deny having Brotherhood links or an Islamist agenda, but it consistently upholds Islamists. This is just the latest example. Meanwhile, CAIR never lifts a finger to help Muslims that stand in the way of the Brotherhood, at home or abroad.
