The group released its declaration of support for the Islamic State on a Portuguese language channel called Ansar al-Khilafah Brazil on the encrypted messaging service Telegram according to SITE, an extremism monitoring group, as reported by Breitbart.
The declaration read that fighters "prepared for the sacrifice of becoming martyrs." There are reports that ISIS is planning an attack on the Olympic Games, which are to be held this summer in Brazil.
"If the French police can not stop attacks on its territory, training given to the Brazilian police will not do anything," a message on their Telegram channel read.
Brazil's defense minister, Raul Jungmann, laid out security preparations for the Olympic Games.
"We will increase security with more reviews, metal detectors and identification checks to ensure the tranquility of the Games,” he said.
“We have delegations at the highest risk, which will already have a special protection scheme. We have 22,850 soldiers from the navy, army and air force and are already offering reserve reinforcements for any eventuality."
