Antifa activists are under investigation by the FBI for a reported plot to buy guns from a Mexican cartel to “stage an armed rebellion,” The Daily Caller reported, citing unclassified documents obtained by The Chicago Tribune.
The location of the rebellion was said to be at a point on the U.S.-Mexico border.
In documents dated from December 2018, the FBI warned that activists from the militant Antifa group were planning to “disrupt security operations” at the U.S.-Mexican border.
The FBI sent a report marked “priority” about the alleged rebellion to various government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the CIA and the National Security Administration.
Antifa purports to be an anti-fascist group. However, its modus operandi has mainly included violent tactics — property damage, physical violence and harassment – against those the group deems are against their far-Left ideology.
Antifa activists are predominantly anti-capitalists and include anarchists, communists and socialists.
- Antifa activists gained notoriety for protesting provocative right-wing speaker Milo Yiannopoulos in Berekley, California in February 2017, throwing Molotov cocktails, smashing windows and causing $100,000 worth of property damage in the city.
- At the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017, Antifa protesters used clubs and dyed liquids against demonstrating white supremacists.
- In November 2018, Antifa activists staged a protest outside the house of conservative journalist Tucker Carlson. Chanting, “Tucker Carlson, we will fight, we know where you sleep at night!” the militants defaced the driveway of Carlsons’ property by spray-painting an anarchist symbol onto it.
A report by The Daily Caller News Foundation led to the arrest of an Antifa leader who stands accused of accosting and assaulting two Marines in Philadelphia.
