Masjid al-Burhani, located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, established in 1988, is affiliated with Anjuman-e-Najmi. Anjuman-e-Najmi, is the non-profit corporation administering the affairs of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community. Dawoodi Bohras follow the Shia Fatimi School of Islamic jurisprudence based in India and follows the spiritual leadership of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin [1].

The Detroit News reports that “local mosque officials are in charge of following strict orders from Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the Dawoodi Bohra’s spiritual leader in India.[2]”

The American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD) has noted Mr. Janab Aamil Saheb as the President of the mosque [3]. AIFD noted the leadership due to a controversy following several individuals, reported to be leaders within the mosque, face criminal charges stemming from accusations of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). This includes former mosque President Saifuddin Bhabrawala; Treasurer and mosque director, Dr. Fakhruddin Attar; and Dr. Jumana Nagarwala and his wife, Moiz Nagarwala [4].

In a statement on their website The Dawoodi Bohras state, they “do not support the violation of any U.S. law, local, state or federal. Any violation of U.S. law is counter to instructions to our community members. It does not reflect the everyday lives of the Dawoodi Bohras in America.”[5]
