Two Americans stabbed in Amsterdam were in a busy train station August 31 when they were attacked by a knife-wielding 19-year-old Afghan national. Based on the suspect’s initial statements, Dutch authorities are pursuing a “terrorist motive” as they investigate. The Americans, whose names have not yet been released, sustained serious but not life-threatening wounds. The suspect had a residency permit from Germany. He was shot and wounded by Dutch police who apprehended him.

Meanwhile around the world…

A man from Sri Lanka was arrested in Australia and charged with planning a terror attack. The 25-year old was caught finding “symbolic locations in Sydney” listed in a notebook as possible targets.

An Islamist mob attacked a number of Christian homes in a village in Upper Egypt, sending three people to a hospital. Plans of the attacks had circulated for days, but police only arrived after the fact. The Islamists had objected to the presence of a church in the area, according to the Minya Coptic Orthodox Diocese. Similar attacks in the area resulted in eight churches forced to close recently.

Muslim militants in Nigeria (called Fulanis) launched raids on eight villages in last week. In one attack, the Fulanis burned alive a Christian pastor, his wife and three of their children. A local lawyer spoke with one of the three surviving children, who was away at university at the time of the attack and found out through Facebook.

A man in Iran was publicly lashed for drinking alcohol. In the background of a video of the incident posted on Twitter, people in the crowd can be heard shouting in Persian to the authorities to stop it.

An ISIS supporter who planned to behead UK Prime Minister Theresa May was jailed for a minimum of 30 years. Naa’imur Zakariyah Rahman was caught by undercover agents. He was arrested carrying what he believed was a pressure cooker bomb. Rahman had hoped to kill as many police, bystanders and tourists as possible by detonating a bomb at the gates of the PM’s residence on Downing Street, charging through the door, then killing the PM before blowing himself up.
