On Thursday, March 14, 2019, activists staged a sit-in at the office of Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Alongside Rabbi Aryeh Spero, human right’s activist Rabi Kazan read a letter from Judea Pearl, the father of Daniel Pearl (the Wall Street Journal journalist who was beheaded by Islamist extremists in Pakistan in 2002 for being Jewish and a supporter of Israel), which read in part:

I urge Speaker Pelosi to act boldly on Rep. Ilhan Omar & anti-Semitic bigotry. I’m devastated by my Democratic Party. (You can read the full letter here.)

The video of the protest was captured by writer and activist Asra Nomani, who was friends and colleagues with Daniel Pearl. The sit-in follows a week after live feed of Nomani documenting the harassment and exclusionary tactics used by Linda Sarsour and CAIR representatives outside of Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib’s office.
