If a child receives suspicious, threatening or sexually inappropriate messages, resist the instinct to immediately delete them or block the sender. Preserve texts, chats, photos, usernames, profile information and dates and times; take screenshots when possible, including the account name and surrounding conversation. Don’t forward or redistribute explicit images. Original records can help investigators identify an offender, establish what occurred and determine whether other children may also be at risk.
