  • Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a 35-year-old from Springfield, Va., was sentenced to 364 months (over 30 years) in prison on May 7, 2025, for providing material support to ISIS, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. He was convicted in December 2024 of one count of conspiracy and four counts of providing or attempting to provide material support.
  • From October 2019 to October 2022, Chhipa collected over $185,000 through online fundraising on social media, converted it to cryptocurrency, and sent it to Turkey, where it was smuggled to female ISIS members in Syria to fund prison escapes and support ISIS fighters.
  • Chhipa collaborated with a Syria-based ISIS member focused on raising funds for terrorist activities. He received electronic transfers and traveled hundreds of miles to collect cash by hand before converting it to cryptocurrency. Read More
