- Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, 18, of Richfield, Minn., was arrested Oct. 6 and charged with receiving a firearm and ammunition to commit a federal terrorism offense. According to the criminal complaint, Mohamud had discussed traveling to Somalia to join a terrorist organization or carrying out a mass-casualty attack in Minnesota in support of ISIS.
- Prosecutors alleged that Mohamud identified the Mall of America as his target in July 2026, claiming it was Jewish-owned and expressing a desire to kill 30 to 60 people. He allegedly sought accomplices, recorded an ISIS allegiance video and selected Oct. 24 as his intended attack date, coinciding with a Hmong arts celebration at the mall.
- On Oct. 6, Mohamud allegedly purchased a disabled AK-47 rifle, four magazines and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition from an undercover FBI employee for about $600. Authorities arrested him shortly after the transaction. He appeared in federal court Oct. 7 and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
