- Michael “Teekaye” Junior, a Howard County, Md., man, was arrested in 2024 at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport while attempting to leave the United States. The FBI said Junior had self-radicalized online and tried to travel to Africa to join a terrorist group, seeking guidance and logistical support from ISIS operatives.
- According to the FBI, investigators obtained social media posts showing Junior firing an assault rifle at a Severn gun range and Instagram images in which he claimed he was training and displayed a machete. The FBI said he attempted to purchase a 9mm assault rifle but could not because he was on probation for disorderly conduct. Junior eventually shared his plans with an undercover officer and conducted online searches for Jewish people and institutions to target in Columbia, Md.
- The FBI said it had intervened during Junior’s teenage years by interviewing him and his parents and enrolling him in a deradicalization program. After his arrest, investigators said his phone showed that he had instead changed tactics to conceal his intentions. Recorded statements captured Junior saying imprisonment would not deter him from future jihadist violence. Following his prison term, he will be subject to lifetime federal supervised release; the FBI said there had been no immediate threat of an attack in Maryland during its investigation.
