Reduce the personal information children make publicly available online. Use initials or limited identifying information rather than full names, and avoid posting exact birthdates, school names, regular locations or other details that could help someone identify, locate or impersonate them. Review privacy settings together and remind children never to send intimate images, even to someone they believe they know. If grooming, sextortion or another serious threat is suspected, preserve the evidence and report it promptly rather than trying to investigate or confront the person yourself.
