Teach your kids to distrust online strangers, even those who seem friendly or claim to be peers, and only connect with real-world friends they already know in person. Routinely monitor their direct messages on any app, and remind them never to share personal information, photos, passwords, or their location with someone they have only met online. Encourage them to tell a trusted adult immediately if an online conversation becomes secretive, manipulative, or makes them feel uncomfortable.
