Al-Ikhlas Training Academy (ATA), established in 1991, is a non-profit, full-time Islamic school in the City of Detroit [1]. The Nation of Islam founded the school, originally known as the University of Islam in Detroit [2]; ATA serves students from kindergarten through 12th grades.
ATA does not appear to have any official associations with Muslim Brotherhood entities; however, Dawud Walid has served as a member of the school’s Board between July 2000 and June 2005, ending just prior to serving as CAIR-Michigan’s director [3].
ATA’s annual fundraising dinner in January 2018 featured extremist Imam, Siraj Wahhaj as their keynote speaker [4]. Wahhaj, the imam of the radical Masjid At-Taqwa mosque in Brooklyn, has a long history of anti-American rhetoric and has advocated violent jihad [5].
