Masjid al-Islam is part of As-Sabiqun. It also houses a branch of As-Sabiqun called the Islamic Institute for Counter-Zionist American Psychological Warfare.[1]
On December 16, 2012, an event was held at Masjid al-Islam titled, “Global Strategy for Islam.” The advertisement said, “We do not call you to any kind of physical or military confrontation in America; we only ask that you stand up for justice and fair play.” However, it included numerous Islamic verses about fighting.[2] As-Sabiqun has endorsed foreign terrorist groups like Hamas.
Masjid al-Islam’s imam is Amir Abdul Malik Ali. In May 2010, he spoke at the University of California-Irvine and said he supports Hamas, Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He also said that Zionists are the “new Nazis” and they should not be engaged with dialogue.[3] In 2008, he said an “Islamic revival” that includes Hamas and Hezbollah will achieve the “death of Zionism” and end of the “American empire.”  In 2007, he said that “Hamas are freedom fighters, not terrorists.”[4]
In December 2001, Malik Ali reacted to a video of Osama Bin Laden praising the 9/11 attacks by saying he was inspired to “see Muslims around the world who are willing to stand up to the oppressive, imperialist system of the United States.” He said that “this tape is not evidence” and accused the U.S. of trying to find justification to wage war in Afghanistan.[5]
